Stellar Envelopes as Sources of Broad Line Region Emission : New Possibilities Allowed
نویسنده
چکیده
In Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) the presence of a star cluster around the central black hole can have several effects on the dynamics and the emission of the global system. In this paper we analyze the interaction of stellar atmospheres with a wind outflowing from the central region of the AGN nucleus. Even a small mass loss from stars, as well as possible star collisions, can give a non-negligible contribution in feeding matter into the AGN nuclear wind. Moreover, stellar mass loss can produce envelopes surrounding stars that turn out to be suitable for reproducing the observed emission from the Broad Line Region (BLR). In this framework, the envelope can be confined by the bow shock arising from the interaction between the expanding stellar atmosphere and the AGN

Bloated Stars as AGN Broad Line Clouds: The Emission Line Profiles
The ‘Bloated Stars Scenario’ proposes that AGN broad line emission originates in the winds or envelopes of bloated stars (BS). Alexander and Netzer (1994) established that ∼ 5×10 BSs with dense, decelerating winds can reproduce the observed emission line spectrum and avoid rapid collisional destruction. Here, we use the observed properties of AGN line profiles to further constrain the model par...

The SPITZER IRS view of stellar populations in Virgo early type galaxies. Abstract. We have obtained high S/N Spitzer IRS spectra of 17 Virgo early-type galaxies that lie on the colour-magnitude relation of passively evolving galaxies in the cluster. To flux calibrate these extended sources we have devised a new procedure that allows us to obtain the intrinsic spectral energy distribution and t...
متن کاملSiO in C-rich circumstellar envelopes of AGB stars: effects of non-LTE chemistry and grain adsorption
New SiO multi-transition millimetre line observations of a sample of carbon stars, including J = 8→7 observations with the APEX telescope, are used to probe the role of non-equilibrium chemistry and the influence of grains in circumstellar envelopes of carbon stars. A detailed radiative transfer modelling, including the effect of dust emission in the excitation analysis, of the observed SiO lin...
متن کاملTracing the envelopes around embedded low-mass young stellar objects with HCO and millimeter-continuum observations
The envelopes and disks around embedded low-mass young stellar objects (YSOs) are investigated through millimeter continuum and HCO+ line emission. Nine sources, selected on the basis of their HCO+ 3–2 emission from an IRAS fluxand color-limited sample of 24 objects, are observed in λ = 3.4 and 2.7 mm continuum emission with the Owens Valley Millimeter Array, and in the HCO+ and H13CO+ 4–3, 3–2...
متن کاملA high - sensitivity OH 5 - cm line survey in late - type stars ⋆
We have undertaken a comprehensive search for 5-cm excited OH maser emission from evolved stars representative of various stages of late stellar evolution. Observed sources were selected from known 18-cm OH sources. This survey was conducted with the 100-m Effelsberg telescope to achieve high signal to noise ratio observations and a sensitivity limit of about 0.05 to 0.1 Jy. A total of 64 stell...
